Letter Matching with Stickers

After matching letters in the bathtub a couple of weeks ago, I decided to get out some letter stickers and do some more matching. I wrote each of the letters of Trip's name on a half-sheet of cardstock to give him a place to stick the stickers.

He really enjoyed taking the backing off of the foam letter stickers, which I was not expecting. He didn't want any help from me and patiently worked to get the back off of each letter.

I had imagined the stickers being around the letters, but Trip wanted them right on each letter. He didn't get much more than this done before he was distracted and wanted to do something else.

We finished this project the next day and it's now hanging on the door to his room. 

E Week

We had lots of fun activities to do during E week, most of them centering around eggs. This is extra fun since Easter is coming up, but these activities could be done at any time of year. Check back all week for more details about these projects.

We ate eggs almost each day. We had them scrambled, in a German pancake/Dutch baby, in egg salad, and as these cute deviled egg chicks.

Trip had fun with this letter E matching game/puzzle.

We hatched a dinosaur egg from the dollar store, which was a lot of fun.

I made Trip some treasure eggs, which were a big hit.

 Finally, Trip enjoyed covering an E with elk stickers.

V Week

Our V week was full of Valentine, vacuuming, and volcano fun. Click on the links for the full post with more details about each of these activities!

Trip had a fun and simple Valentine's lunch with some delicious homemade fruit gummies.

We made valentines for some family members.

I made a Valentine's Day banner for our kitchen/dining room.

Trip loved vacuuming up tiny letters.

 And finally, Trip discovered that volcanoes are super fun through a science experiment

and a snack afterwards.

I found pictures of vegetables in magazines and Trip helped me glue them onto the V. He was excited to be in charge of the glue stick but wanted me to put most of the veggies on the paper.

O Week- Orange Prints and a Cheerio O

I wasn't too sure how Trip would like doing orange prints since he really just wanted to paint with his fingers and paintbrush when we did potato prints during P week. I made a few prints to show him the idea, and then I was pleasantly surprised that he made some of his own.

Next, he used the paintbrush to paint the orange.

Those little fingers had to get in the paint too.

 

After a few minutes, he realized what fun it was to poke the orange with the paintbrush.

Then, it was all over and the silliness was in full swing.

Soon thereafter we were done before we had orange juice and paint all over the dining room.

Later, we used the orange print paper to make our letter to hang in Trip's room. We glued on some Cheerios in the shape of an O and it was ready.

B Week- Bean-covered B

After Trip enjoyed gluing the pasta to the letter P a couple of weeks ago, I decided to let him cover the letter B in beans this week.

This time, I improved our setup to lessen the mess. I placed the paper on a cookie sheet and the beans in a plastic container. The only beans that ended up on the floor were the ones that were stuck to Trip's hands after he touched the glue and wiped them off over the carpet. That was a win in my opinion.

He was very excited for me to put the "blue" on the paper so the he could put beans on it. Once the first section of glue was covered, he said, "More blue!"

Once again, I drizzled more glue over the finished product to ensure that the beans would stick. Now Trip's work of art is hanging on the wall in his bedroom.

P Week- Pasta-covered P

This week Trip was actually excited to participate in decorating the letter for his bedroom door. I got out several kinds of pasta (including our rainbow salad macaroni from R week) and some glue. I applied the glue to a section of the P and he got right to work adding the pasta.

For the next section, he wanted to help with the glue. Fortunately he wasn't able to get too much out, so we didn't end up with a huge puddle.

After applying some more pasta, Trip decided it was time to taste some (much to my dismay).

Before the mess got out of control and too much uncooked pasta was ingested, I said we were done. That didn't make Trip too happy, but I was able to distract him with something else, and quickly whisked away his artwork to dry in a safe spot. I drizzled some more glue over the whole thing to help insure that the pasta would stay put on the paper. 

That worked nicely, and a couple of hours later, our P was ready to join the other letters on Trip's door. It's fun to see his name completed. He loves to touch the pasta when we're coming in and out of his room and usually asks me to cook it.

I Week- Insect I

This week, we decorated our paper I with insects. We used two insect stamps and some plastic insects we had. Trip helped a little with the stamping, but wasn't too interested. He didn't care about gluing on the insects, so I did that part myself. This I now hangs on his door with the T and R that we have already made.
